在这张《Discipline》之前，Janet Jackson的前两张专辑分别是2004年的《Damita Jo》和2006年的《20 Y.O.》都是通过Virgin发行。这两张专辑在Billboard 200排行榜中的首周打榜的成绩和最好成绩都是亚军。其中，《Damita Jo》上市第一周共售出了38万1千张，而《20 Y.O.》也卖出了近30万张(29万6千张)，都比《Discipline》高了不少。
